The Big Step ... or ... the first step

If you talk to someone about entrepreneurship, it's always about if or when to take the 'big step'. Like, giving up your job, putting your whole family at risk, taking up multiple mortgages on your house and invite stress into your life as a permanent companion. No wonder, most of whom I talk to ask themselves this paralysing question: I'm not sure I've got what it takes. Well. If what it takes would be only half of what I just described, I'm pretty sure I myself would not have what it takes. But that's all a big misperception. Real entrepreneurship is nothing like that. Of course, there are some risks involved. But most of them don't exceed the riskiness of ordinary activities. And there isn't a successful entrepreneur who would tell you he makes decisions without first carefully weighing the pros and cons and making sure that the most negative possible outcome won't kill him of as a businessman.

So there's a log of nonsense about entrepreneurship out there. But what's it really like then? Well. If you are attracted to entrepreneurship, you just start! That's really all there is to it. Start reading, start talking, start planning, start trying. Before you know it, you are miles nearer to the other side of the canyon and realise that the other side isn't as far as you first thought it would be. It's really true. So. Just decide to start now. Start reading or maybe take an Internet course. Have fun with this for a couple of weeks. And then think about 'the big step' again and see how ludicrous this common believe really is.

Everything you need to know

If you want to become a (Self Made) Entrepreneur, all you need to know is right there on the Internet. If you really look into it, it's amazing. It's like an instant university, or even better, because most of the books en courses are written by successful experts and entrepreneurs who know what they are talking about. So, if you one of those who is constantly doubting if you have what it takes to become a real entrepreneur, stop thinking and start learning. It's all there, literally one click away. And if you start learning, there are really only two possible outcomes. 1) You'll get hooked (like me) and find out what Entrepreneurship is really about, discover what you're already good at and what you'll have to work hard on. Or 2) you'll find out you're not really that interested in Entrepreneurship so can stop doubting and use your energy to do other fun things with your life. Just give it a go. Your uncertainties about entrepreneurship will be gone within a few weeks.
